Phil Taylor
Taylor is the current world number one

Steve Grubb says he is delighted to be drawn against 13-time world champion Phil Taylor in the first round of the PDC World Championship.

It is the first time the pub landlord from Clandown near Radstock will take part in the event at Alexandra Palace later this month.

Grubb told BBC Somerset Sound: "It is an absolute dream and one of the biggest challenges in world sport.

"The man is an absolute legend. He's the best player ever by a long way."

This is the ultimate challenge. He is odds-on favourite to win the tournament

Grubb added: "To be playing him in front of around 2,500 people is just going to be amazing.

"I joined the PDC two and a half years ago and I played John Part in Ireland when he was still world champion.

"I beat him three sets to two and he was ranked number four and that has given me a lot of confidence."

Grubb will face Taylor on a date between 19-23 December.

"This is the ultimate challenge. He is odds-on favourite to win the tournament," said Grubb.

"The pressure is on him, I can go out there and relax.

"I've been playing darts for a long time and it has not sunk in yet. It's almost fantasy time.

"I'm sure there will be one bus load of fans coming down from my pub to support me."
