Part won the PDC title in 2003 and the BDO world crown in 1994 |
Reigning champion John Part crashed out in the first round of his defence of the PDC World Darts Championship. Canadian Part was beaten 3-0 by American Bill Davis in a shock defeat at Alexandra Palace on Friday. Elsewhere Roland Scholten suffered a 3-2 defeat by Carlos Rodriguez, Co Stompe beat Andy Jenkins and Warren French beat Akihiro Nagakawa. "I had a chance of a good run in this tournament but I never got going - I didn't get out of the gate," said Part. "You can't afford to turn up and not be at your best. I was prepared but it's too hard to narrow it down to anything specific." Number one seed Phil Taylor, the 13-time world champion, will take on Somerset qualifier Steve Grubb on Saturday. Dutch second seed Raymond van Barneveld meets Newcastle's Mark Stephenson, and world number three James Wade takes on Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan. Kirk Shepherd, last year's surprise runner-up, has a tough task against Dutch left-hander Jan van der Rassel.
