Klaasen stunned Raymond van Barneveld to clinch the title |
Jelle Klaasen faces a stern first test in his Lakeside World Darts title defence after being was drawn against fellow Dutchman Co Stompe. And if Klaasen, who is unseeded for the 2007 championship, gets past the 16th seed, he could face BDO world number one Martin Adams in round two.
Dutch third seed Michael van Gerwen, 17, will make his Lakeside debut against Northumberland's Gary Robson.
Ex-champion Andy Fordham, meanwhile, has drawn Australia's Simon Whitlock.
Klassen produced a stunning 7-5 victory over Raymond van Barneveld to clinch the world title last year.
But his moderate form this season denied him one of the 16 seeding places and left him with the strong possibility of being drawn against one of the leading players.
Stompe, however, is looking forward to taking on the defending champion. He said: "Poor Jelle, it's unlucky for him. I haven't got to play Jelle, he's got to play me."
Adams is top seed for the tournament following the defection of Barneveld to the Professional Darts Corporation and faces a tough opponent in Tony O'Shea.
Meanwhile, qualifier Paul Gibbs will take on fifth seed Mervyn King.
