Taylor is now 26 matches unbeaten at Blackpool's Winter Gardens |
Phil Taylor has repeated his desire to seal a grand slam this year following his first-round win over Jamie Harvey in the Stan James World Matchplay. The Stoke thrower outclassed the Scot 10-4 in Blackpool to remain on course to win all of 2005's Professional Darts Corporation's televised events.
Taylor, 44, won a 12th World title in January and has since secured the Premier League and UK Open crowns.
"I'd love to do the slam," he said. "As I'm getting older I'm trying harder."
Meanwhile, Roland Scholten survived a mid-match comeback from Matt Clark to progress to the second round.
The Dutchman relaxed after racing into a 7-1 lead and Clark closed the gap to 6-7 before missing three darts which could have seen him level the scores.
Elsewhere, Colin Lloyd fought back from 6-4 down to beat Paul Williams 10-7 to move into the second round.
And crowd favourite Wayne Mardle produced an impressive display to see off Lionel Sams 10-2.
