Phil Taylor won his third Las Vegas Desert Classic title with a 6-1 mauling
of Wayne Mardle at the MGM Grand. The defending champion needed a little over an hour to see off Mardle in a
repeat of last year's final.
'The Power' remain on course for a grand slam of the Professional Darts Corporation's televised events.
After winning a 12th World Championship in January, Taylor has since added the
Premier League and UK Open titles to his collection.
"I am going for the grand slam this year, I really want to do it," he said. "It would be a great achievement and this is another step towards that.
"Wayne's talented and he will be back. He is a winner and he hates losing as
much as I do, and that's what makes great finals.
"I knew I had to play that well if I was going to beat him, and I thankfully
I did."
Mardle admitted: "I have never seen Phil play as well and I was glad to win a
set in the end.
"For the first four sets I did not really make a mistake, but scoring tons
and 140s was not good enough."
