Last finished third in the U-23 race at Dalby on 2010 |
British cycling prodigy Annie Last hit a new peak in the second round of the Cross-Country Mountain Bike World Cup in Dalby Forest near Pickering. The 20-year-old from Great Longstone near Bakewell came 14th, her best ever finish in a World Cup race. Last told BBC Radio York: "I'm really happy with how I rode. The race went as well as I could have asked for. "By the last lap I'd got nothing left so I had to give it everything I'd got, which wasn't much, but it was OK." Last was ranked 28 by the International Cycling Union (UCI) at the start of the race, but finished 20th in the opening World Cup round. "I'm just looking to move forwards and upwards through the field. Hopefully I'll keep moving up through the year," she said. "I'm really happy with how I'm progressing and how the results show I'm progressing as well." The women's elite race at Dalby was won by the French national champion Julie Bresset, with Last hree minutes behind. "She's on the podium and winning races, but I've got lots of things to improve on. Hopefully with time I will get there," Last added.
