Boasson Hagen continued his impressive start to the season

Team Sky were praised for their teamwork after Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen finished second on the opening stage of the inaugural Tour of Oman.

With Brits Ian Stannard and Geraint Thomas in his eight-man team, Boasson Hagen finished behind Jimmy Casper.

Sports director Steven de Jongh tweeted: "Boys did great! Edvald second place. Great teamwork - I am proud."

The evening criterium race covered 61km on the 3.8km Muscat Corniche Circuit, with the riders completing 16 laps.

Boasson Hagen has been in fine form to start the season, with third and sixth place stage finishes in last week's Tour of Qatar.

The race contains six stages in all, with a short individual time trial to finish on Friday.
