Thousand riders set for Manx race

MTB

Over 1,000 mountain bike riders will line-up at the Point of Ayre on Sunday for the 13th running of the Isle of Man End-2-End MTB race.

Race organiser Stephen Honeybone told BBC Isle of Man: "The End-2-End is a fantastic challenge and the numbers we have received this year are amazing."

"We've got 1069 riders signed up to start and over 700 are travelling to the island specially for the event."

The gruelling 75km race will start at 1000 BST from the Point of Ayre.

Riders will have to tackle 1500m of climbing with a thrilling mixture of fast fire roads, sweeping moorland paths, country lanes and forest singletrack before they reach the finish at Cregneash.

All riders are required to sign in on Saturday between 1400 BST and 2000 BST at the Villa Marina in Douglas.

With over 700 riders travelling to the island for the event, Manx entrees are urged to turn up early to allow for those arriving on the 1745 BST ferry.

Honeybone continued: "This is a real test and we would welcome everyone who wants to come out to cheer the riders on."
