Cyclists set for Dartmoor test

Dartmoor Classic

Up to 2000 cyclists will descend on Kingsteignton on Sunday to take part in the annual Dartmoor Classic event.

Riders will have a choice of either the 100km or 100mile distance, with both starting from Abbrook Park at 0715 BST.

Chief Marshall Ken Robertson told BBC Sport that the participants will encounter almost 9000ft of hills.

He added: "You have to prepare properly for the Dartmoor Classic, because if you don't, you won't do the course justice, or yourself justice."

The Dartmoor Classic is one of the most respected events of its type in the country with a wide variety of terrain and trophies for every cyclist who completes the course.

Spectators will be able to watch the cyclists across much of Dartmoor including Bovey Tracey, Princetown, Tavistock and Moretonhampstead.

"We've got cyclists coming from all over the world, plus many local people which provides a major boost for the local tourist industry," Robertson added.
