Cavendish looks in top form ahead of the Tour in France next month

British sprint king Mark Cavendish won his second stage of the Tour of Switzerland on Thursday.

Cavendish, who won the third stage on Monday, sealed victory in the sixth stage from Oberriet to Bad Zurzach.

The 24-year-old Team Columbia rider beat Oscar Freire and Francesco Gavazzi in a sprint finish but Slovenia's Tadej Valjavec retains the overall lead.

Cavendish now joins Chris Boardman as the most successful British rider of all time with 41 career stage wins.

"It may have appeared easy but it wasn't that evident to me," said Cavendish.

"We had to cope with a second category climb early in the stage and then a strong headwind.

"I am here to prepare for the Tour de France. There is no better exercise than to climb the mountains in order to achieve full competitive fitness."

Friday's 204km seventh stage is from Bad Zurzach to Vallorbe and the nine-day race ends on Sunday.
