Men's champion Ronan O'Toole hurtles through South Barrule Plantation. |
Ronan O'Toole's second place finish in the final round of the Manx Mountain Bike Club's winter handicap series was enough to win him the title on Sunday. Julian Corlett finished fifth on the day to take overall second while round four winner Dave Griffin scooped third. The final round of the series was won by Robert Cormode, 64 seconds ahead of O'Toole at South Barrule plantation. Julie Lyness won the women's race, but Alicia Corlett, who finished 18th after her wheel came off, won the title. Lyness had a superb final round outing and was the first lady across the line in a time of 1:26.25, finishing seventh overall. Corlett carried her bike across the line after her front wheel came adrift during the race to take the overall title from Joanne Hawkins in second. In the junior event Joseph Kelly had a strong ride and took the win from Thomas Mazzone and Nick Corlett, with Sophie Black the first girl across the line. In the boys' race Matthew Draper took a convincing win with Breeshey Cain winning the girls race.
