Second stage could suit Cavendish

Mark Cavendish
Cavendish will be looking for a better result on Monday's second stage

Mark Cavendish finished stage one of the Tour of California 13-and-a-half minutes behind the leading riders on Sunday in 66th place.

The stage was won by Spaniard Francisco Mancebo, who took the yellow jersey in the process.

Americans Levi Leipheimer and David Zabriskie are second and third with Lance Armstrong in fifth place.

Next the riders will tackle the 115 miles from Sausalito to Santa Cruz, taking in the Golden Gate Bridge.

The stage contains a couple of moderate climbs but should give Cavendish the chance of a stage victory with the finish likely to be contested by the sprinters.

The 23-year-old Team Columbia-Highroad rider was awarded the Best Young Rider jersey for his 10th place in Saturday's Prologue.
