Pendleton sprinted to cycling gold in Beijing |
Mildenhall Cycling Club have created new honorary awards to celebrate the Olympic success of former member Victoria Pendleton. Club members voted unanimously at their Annual General Meeting to create bronze, silver and gold categories. And 27-year-old Pendleton will receive their first gold award after winning the women's sprint in Beijing. She was made a regular honorary member of the club in 2005 after becoming a world champion for the first time. Committee member Mark Burchett said: "All our members felt we had to do something to honour her phenomenal achievement. "She is already an inspiration to so many and she's set to be a cycling icon not only in the 2012 London Olympics, but beyond as well."
