The achievements of Manx cyclists Mark Cavendish and Jonny Bellis were celebrated in front of hundreds of guests at the Villa Marina on Monday. The Olympic pair were both awarded trophies by Chief Minister Tony Brown. Brown said proudly: "Mark [Cavendish] and Jonny [Bellis] take pride in their island, and their island takes great pride in them." Cavendish was also given an award to honour his incredible four stage victories at the Tour de France. Great Britain men's endurance coach Rod Ellingworth was a guest at the gathering and was impressed by the island's attitude to cycling. "It is clear that everyone on the island is behind them, which is very encouraging and many areas of the UK could learn a lot from the Isle of Man," he said. On accepting his award Bellis said he was honoured to be invited and that the support he had received from everyone in the Isle of Man had inspired him and other Manx cyclists.
