Frenchman Christophe Moreau won the Dauphine Libere after a rain-hit final stage was won by Alexandre Vinokourov. The Kazakh rider broke away 4km from finish in Annecy to seal the Astana team's fourth stage win of the race.
Spaniard Oscar Pereiro finished second in the stage, with Cadel Evans third. The Aussie was also runner-up overall ahead of Kazakh Andrey Kashechkin.
AG2R's Moreau, who has now won the Tour de France warm-up twice, finished in a group under a minute behind Vinokourov.
At 36, he is the oldest-ever winner of the Dauphine Libere in its 60-year history. His first victory in the event came in 2001.
"I won because I knew how to stay calm at the crucial moments," Moreau said after Sunday's 129km stage through the lower Alps near Grenoble.
"Consistency rather than panicking, going all out and then losing time was the key.
"When I won at St Etienne and on the Mont Ventoux I knew I was on good form and could start thinking about overall victory."
