Cooke misses out on Belgian win
Nicole Cooke
Cooke retains her lead in the World Cup standings
Nicole Cooke lost out to main rival Marianne Vos in the Belgian stage of the World Cup, the Fleche Wallonne.

The 24-year-old Welsh star went early in the final sprint but was overhauled by the 19-year-old Dutch rider.

Cooke, who rides for Raleigh, finished four seconds back but retains a healthy lead in the World Cup standings.

Italian Davide Rebellin won the men's event for the second time in his career, pushing 2006 winner Alejandro Valverde into second spot.

Cooke was aiming to become the first four-time winner in the Fleche Wallonne's 10-year history, having won three of the previous four runnings.

The Wick rider won the first two World Cup races of the year and finished seventh at the Ronde van Drenthe earlier this month.

Vos's win ensured the Team DSB Bank rider became the first reigning world champion to win the prestigious Belgian Classic.

Germany's Judith Arndt (T-Mobile) finished a further three seconds back in third place.
