 Kashechkin edged out Vinokourov on the line |
Andrey Kashechkin of Kazakhstan won the 18th stage of the Tour of Spain, ahead of compatriot Alexandre Vinokourov who retains the overall race lead. Vinokourov attacked six kilometres from the summit finish at La Pandera and Kashechkin broke from the rest of the field to join him and win the stage.
Jose Angel Gomez Marchante of Spain was back in third, just ahead of compatriot Alejandro Valverde.
Vinokourov leads Valverde by 53 seconds in the general classification.
Friday's stage covers 205.3km from Jaen to Ciudad Real while the race finishes on Sunday in Madrid.
