 Di Luca put in a solid display on the mountain stage |
Italian rider Danilo Di Luca won the fifth stage of the Tour of Spain to move into the overall lead. Di Luca claimed victory on the first mountain stage covering 178km from Placencia to La Covatilla.
He outsprinted Slovenian Janez Brajkovic at the summit finish of the 18km La Covatilla climb.
The pair attacked from a group of eight riders and battled to the line with Kazakh Andrey Kashechkin seven seconds behind in third.
