 Bos beat the British duo into second and third places |
Dutchman Theo Bos beat Jason Queally and defending champion Chris Hoy in the final of the 1km time-trial at the track cycling World Championship. It was a disappointing night all round for Britain, with last year's individual pursuit silver medallist Rob Hayles failing to reach the final.
Jamie Staff failed to defend his title in the Keirin event.
He came fourth, behind Dutchman Teun Mulder, Barry Forde of Barbados and Australia's Shane John Kelly.
Afterwards, Hoy said he could not put his finger on what had gone wrong, but remained philosophical despite his defeat.
"The other two produced phenomenal rides," he said.
"Before the start I kept reminding myself not to worry about anyone else and
do my own ride but I didn't have that sharpness in my legs.
"I didn't have the drive the whole way round, I struggled to get on top of
the gear and just didn't get on it at all. That's life, I suppose."
Elsewhere, six years after winning his first world title, Germany's Robert Barko beat Sergi Roure Escobar of Spain in the men's pursuit, with Levi Heimans third.
