Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke says she is on course to compete in the Olympics after knee surgery. The 21-year-old Commonwealth Games champion went under the knife last month to cure a persistent problem left by a crash a year ago.
"The bruising has gone, the two holes in my knee have healed and I'm getting the full range of motion," the youngster from Wick told The Guardian.
"If I can train properly I can be one of the strongest on the day."
Cooke enjoyed the luxury of pre-selection last December for the Great Britain team to compete in Athens, along with compatriot Julian Winn.
Although she has missed almost the whole cycling season, being unable to defend her World Cup crown, Cooke will return to competitive action at the British Road Race Championship on 26 June. "I'm very fresh, very strong, very motivated," Cooke added.
