Queally won two medals in Sydney |
Jason Queally faces an anxious wait over whether he will be able to defend his Olympic kilometre cycling crown. The Briton won two medals at the 2000 Games with gold in the 1km time trial and silver in the team pursuit.
But he faces competition from team-mates Chris Hoy and Craig MacLean who are riding at the World Championships.
"It's down to the performance manager to decide who represents Britain. So there's a possibility I might not be defending my title," said Queally.
A decision on the team for the Olympics is likely to be made shortly after the World Track Cycling Championships, currently taking place in Melbourne.
Queally stunned the cycling world in Sydney when he upstaged more highly-fancied competitors Frenchman Arnaud Tournant and Australian Shane Kelly to win one of Britain's 11 gold medals.
His one kilometre time of one minute 1.609 seconds stands as an Olympic record.
But since Sydney, Hoy has won the world kilometre championship two years ago, while MacLean has developed into one of the fastest starters in the world in the team sprint.
