Australian Michael Rogers headed home a star-studded field to add the Tour of Germany title to his Tour of Belgium success.

The 23-year-old Quick Step rider claimed the lead in Sunday's individual time trial claim and held onto it on Monday's 173.2km final stage from Bad Duerkheim to Saarbruecken.

German Olaf Pollack won a mass sprint to claim the last stage, which brought no major changes to the overall standings.

Portuguese rider Jose Azevedo of the ONCE team was second overall, one minute and 19 seconds back with Kazakhstan's Alexander Vinokourov of Team Telekom taking third place, 1:52 behind the winner.

Pre-race favourite Spain's Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano, the defending champion, fell in the time trial and broke his collarbone.

German Jan Ullrich was fifth overall, more than two minutes behind Rogers.

The seven-day Tour of Germany was marred by the death of French rider Fabrice Salanson, who died of heart failure in his Dresden hotel room.
