Devon's short mat bowls team emerged victorious over close rivals Cornwall in the season's opening ESMBA Inter-County Championship match. The Premier team overcame a slow start to secure a convincing 27-13 win at the ISCA Bowling Centre in Exeter. With Devon 9-7 ahead at the half-way stage, the home side proceeded to dominate in the singles and pairs matches, winning all four games. Cornwall fared better in the 'A' team match, winning 23-17. The two teams will face each other again on 31 October at the Dragon Centre in Bodmin.
