King (left) plays his second-round singles match on Wednesday |
Norfolk bowler Mervyn King has won the pairs title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships for the third time. King, a pest controller from Fakenham, and his partner Kelvin Kerkow beat former champions David Gourlay and Billy Jackson 9-7 8-8. King told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It was a privilege to be involved in a game as close as that. It could have gone either way." King and Australian Kerkow last won the pairs title in 2005. "We've played together for four years now," said King. "We've been to three finals and won two titles so things have gone quite well considering that Kelvin's one side of the world and I'm on the the other.". The 49-year-old is a favourite with the crowd at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton on Sea. "A lot of people come and watch from my club and we get a lot of support from the people of Norfolk. The crowds are great and we all got some good support," he said. King plays his second-round match in the singles competition against Norfolk qualifier Tim Stone from Little Plumstead on Wednesday 14 January.
