Gumbs can play at point guard, shooting guard and small forward |
Plymouth Raiders have signed shooting guard Jerome Gumbs on a week-to-week rolling contract. The 28-year-old spent last season with Everton Tigers where he averaged 16 points and five rebounds per game. Raiders head coach Gavin Love said: "Jerome is an experienced player with a winning attitude. "He will be able to come in and play multiple positions and give us both a defensive presence and a scoring punch," added Love. Raiders chairman Bob Widdecombe explained that Gumbs' week-to-week contract would enable the player to move abroad if another offer came in. Widdecombe said: "There's a lot of interest in Jerome from teams in Venezuela and the Philippines in particular, where he stands to make a substantially higher salary than he would make here in the BBL. "These leagues don't start for a while though, so he has signed with us on a week-to-week basis. "Once he gets here, he might decide that he wants to stay for the rest of the season, which would obviously be great." Gumbs is scheduled to arrive in Plymouth for training on Wednesday and could be in the squad to face Worthing Thunder away on Saturday.
