James took over as Worcester head coach in December |
Worcester Wolves head coach Paul James was disappointed with his side despite their 75-70 win against Essex. The Wolves twice threw away the lead before securing a victory that keeps them within sight of the British Basketball League play-off places. James told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Sometimes you have to win ugly, but this was just about our poorest performance of the season. "We shot terribly from the foul line in the first half but shot a bit better in the second, which was probably the difference in the game." The result leaves the Wolves 10th in the BBL, four points behind eight-placed Worthing, who occupy the final play-off spot, with a game in hand. "In the cold light of day I am really pleased that we got the two points, we are heading in the right direction," added James. "It's not the warmest gym in the world, in fact it's freezing, and that maybe contributed to our poor performance. "I heard Essex were tough at home and they are, they are young and energetic and they never give up. "We tried to give it away but we have two more points in the bag and this is what matters."
