 The Flyers triumphed in their maiden appearance in the final
Bristol Flyers basketball team are the 2010 National Cup champions after they beat Manchester 63-61 in overtime. It was a maiden final appearance for the Flyers and the first time they had beaten the Magic in seven attempts. Head coach Andreas Kapoulas said: "Winning the National Cup is a major milestone on our club's history. "It is such a great achievement and a huge [reward] for our players, supporters, coaches and Bristol basketball in general." Kapoulas continued: "I am so proud of our players' commitment, work ethic and determination. The teams were locked 57-57 at full-time, after Flyers' Doug McLaughlin-Williams scored two free throws in the dying seconds to tie the game. Manchester opened up a two-point lead at the halfway stage of overtime, 61-59, before four unanswered points from the Flyers secured the biggest victory in their history. Bristol forward Davis Bowne was voted the final's most valuable player. "The win was a product of our hard work and demonstrated the depth and toughness our team possesses," he said. "I am so happy to be part of this group. The cup means a lot to the Flyers and Bristol basketball. We now hope to continue our success in the league campaign."
