Sheffield Sharks coach Atiba Lyons urging BBL focus

Basketball

Sheffield Sharks player-coach Atiba Lyons says they need to re-focus for the remainder of the season.

The BBL Championship leaders struggled in their first game back from the Christmas break with a 90-88 overtime win over Worcester on Sunday.

Lyons told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We've got a big target on our back and teams step up a little more to play us and we've got to come in games focussed.

"Defensively we had lapses, we didn't do our job properly."

At the weekend, the Sharks had four late points from Mike Tuck to thank for their win.

The Sharks were in danger of losing their first game of the new year and had joint MVP Mike Cook to thank for hitting a crucial three-point shot that tied the game 76-76 and took the game into overtime.

The league leaders also lost captain Todd Cauthorn midway through the game with a head injury that required hospital treatment.

"He had to have eight stitches but he'll be fine, Todd's a tough guy," added Lyons.
