Rampant Leicester Riders match 22-year BBL record

Basketball

Leicester Riders enjoyed a fine win double at the weekend, including a record-equalling BBL victory.

Riders matched the highest winning margin in BBL history - a 110-38 home win over London Capital on Saturday.

Capital briefly led 7-6 but LaTaryl Williams put Riders back in front and they crushed their opposition in style.

On Friday Riders were made to work much harder for their road win over Essex Pirates, but triumphed 84-81 thanks to a dramatic late surge.

Riders were only ahead once in the game until Barry Lamble gave them the lead with just 14 seconds left.

Bradd Wierzbicki then sealed the victory with two free throws.

Coach Rob Paternostro said: "It was a great effort by the Pirates. They were very well coached and had the best tactics of any team we have played this season. They really slowed us down.

"All credit to my guys though, they made the big plays when it counted."

Leicester's win over London Capital on Saturday means they now share the biggest win in BBL history with Livingstone, who also recorded a 72-point differential in beating Crystal Palace 109-37 in 1987.
