The American was in tears after the game but later spoke to BBC Radio Leicester: "I just dedicate this to him. I just put it all behind me and played my best, but he'll always have a place in my heart."

On the win over Sheffield, the Leicester head coach Rob Paternostro saw his side out rebound the opposition 53-28, and another of his new signings Jason Johnson had 22 points and 13 rebounds.

"I thought we were solid throughout, and although I didn't know what to expect with all our new signings they really stepped up," Paternostro said.

The Riders now face a double header, travelling to champions Newcastle on 2nd October followed by a home game against the Everton Tigers on the 3rd October.
