Riders to run new apprenticeship

Basketball

Leicester Riders and Burleigh Community College have been chosen as centres of excellence for basketball.

The college and club will offer one of 11 national programmes for the first Advanced Apprenticeships in Sporting Excellence set up by the government.

Leicester's general manager Russell Levenston said: "This is exciting news for the Riders and Burleigh.

"Last season LaTaryl Williams did a great job setting up a basketball academy at Burleigh."

Levenston added: "We have the opportunity to take that to another level, with this official AASE status and funding.

"It is a tribute to the work of Burleigh and LaTaryl that we have got this recognition from the governing body."

The apprenticeship will also provide training and development across a wide range of sports.
