Coach James set to exit Guildford

Guildford Heat coach Paul James
James will leave a legacy of success at Guildford Heat

Guildford Heat coach and co-founder Paul James will leave the club at the end of the season.

Under James' stewardship the Heat won a range of trophies including the 2006/07 BBL Cup & League Championship double.

James was named BBL Coach of the Year in the 2006/07 season. Last year, the Heat won the Cup Winners' Cup and the BBL play-off championships.

In this campaign the Heat won the Cup Winners' Cup and reached the final of the BBL trophy.

Heat's managing director Alan McClafferty told the club's website: "PJ, the management team, the sponsors, the volunteers and supporters have every right to look at the club with pride, knowing that the club is what it is today because of everyone's efforts.

"I have no doubt that PJ will be coaching next season in Europe or wherever he wants to and I am sure that he will be as successful as he has always been.

"I am also sure that he will always be welcome at the Furnace - even if he may be coaching the away team."

McClafferty is focussed on ensuring a positive future for the Heat after they went into administration earlier in the year.

He added: "When I took on the company after it went into administration in mid-February, I knew we would have to look at every aspect of the club to ensure we got it financially stable and had the brightest possible future."
