Anthony Paez was Wolves' top scorer with 27 points against Worthing |
Worcester Wolves beat Worthing Thunder 101-87 in the British Basketball League Trophy but are still out. Plymouth Raiders had already qualified for the semi-finals from group four of the competition. However, it is a morale-boosting win for the Wolves against a team that they are battling with for a BBL Championship play-off place. The Wolves were led once more by Anthony Paez's 27 points, with Skouson Harker on 22 and Harry Disy on 18. Wolves trailed 36-19 early in the second stanza but came surging back. An Adam Williams three-pointer sparked a 16-2 run that was capped by a dunk and another triple from Paez but the Wolves trailed 48-43 at half-time. The Wolves pulled away in what was ultimately a comfortable fourth quarter. The teams were tied at 76 and then again at 81, before the home side scored the next 13 points. Thunder made a go of it late on and narrowed the gap to 96-87, but back-to-back baskets from Funn and Harker pushed the Wolves over 100 and put the game beyond Worthing in the last minute.
