Depth boost for Eagles - Stewart

Lynard Stewart
Stewart believes Newcastle are the strongest team in the BBL

Newcastle Eagles forward Lynard Stewart believes strength in depth will be the vital factor in their push for silverware this season.

Stewart, 32, helped Newcastle to a 90-81 win against Scottish Rocks on Friday and has hailed the quality of the players within their ranks.

"We have a deeper bench than most of the teams out there, some subs could be starters," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"That could be key later in the season if we get injuries or tired players."

Newcastle welcome Everton Tigers to the Arena on Saturday in the BBL Cup.

And Stewart admitted the Tigers remain something of an unknown quantity.

"It's going to be a tough game, and everybody wants to see how they match up against us," he said.

"I don't really keep up with what the other teams are doing.

"They're playing well and they were good last season but just missed a few little things.

"They have a deep bench and team but they've got to to come here and play us first."
