Evans has enjoyed a 13-year professional career |
Cheshire Jets have signed point-guard Chuck Evans from British Basketball League rivals Worcester Wolves. The 36-year-old was third in the league for assists last season, averaging 5.5 per game, and was also seventh overall in three-point shooting. The 5'11 playmaker holds dual US-German nationality and has been successful in Russia, Germany and Poland. Meanwhile Wolves director of basketball Mick Donovan has said other players are attracting interest from their rivals. He told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Anthony Paez, James Life and Shaun Durrant are quite sought after." Donovan added: "One of the problems with being one of the smallest BBL teams is there's always the chance we are going to lose players we develop to clubs with more cash." And he says there is no point in rushing to make signings as there are still plenty of talented players on the market. | We are playing a bit of hard ball with some players and agents because we've got our budgets Wolves director of basketball Mick Donovan |
"At this stage of the season the players coming out of America all have a high value but when they find out they are not going to get the money they want the price goes down. "In previous years we've been naive but now we are more established we are playing a bit of hard ball with some players and agents because we've got our budgets. "We've got to move soon as we have to get permits for the overseas players, we would be hoping to make our first announcements in the next couple of weeks." Evans is the second player to arrive at the Jets this summer, following the signing of Texan forward Calvin Davis.
