Eagles romp over toothless Sharks

Newcastle Eagles kept up their title push with a 91-82 win over Sheffield Sharks that takes them six points clear at the top of the BBL.

Forwards Darius Defoe, Lynard Stewart and Jeremy Hyatt helped themselves to the points as Eagles exerted their dominance from the start.

Sharks were swamped by Eagles' attack and only a resolute defence stopped them from adding to their total.

The result also extended Eagles' run of league victories to nine games.

Despite being favourites to take the title Newcastle captain Andrew Bridge believes the squad cannot afford to be complacent.

"You never know in basketball, because two years ago we were about three or four games back and we won the league quite comfortably in the end," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"So it looks that way on paper, but in basketball you never know."
