Hallam was match point up against Kaur |
Commonwealth champion Tracey Hallam failed to reach the All England Championships main draw after an agonising final-game qualifying defeat. The 31-year-old, who was making her comeback after ankle surgery last September, lost 17-21 21-15 25-23 in Birmingham to Malaysian Anita Raj Kaur.
"I'm very disappointed," admitted Staffordshire-based Hallam, who let slip a 20-16 lead in the final game.
England's Rajiv Ouseph also missed out in the men's qualifying competition.
He was beaten 21-17 18-21 21-18 by Tan Chun Seung of Malaysia.
His exit means Andrew Smith, who will play second seed Chen Jin of China, and Richard Vaughan of Wales are the only Britons in the main draw of the men's singles.
Scot Susan Hughes is the only British woman in the women's singles.
Highlights from the All England Championships will be shown on BBC Two on Tuesday 13 March from 1330-1415.
