Taufik won the Olympic title at the 2004 Games in Athens |
Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat has withdrawn from the All England Championships in Birmingham. There had been confusion over whether or not the Indonesian would play, as he had reportedly pulled out because of a row with his national association.
Organisers last week told BBC Sport the 25-year-old would take part, but Indonesian badminton officials have now confirmed that he will not play.
They said he had withdrawn "because he was not physically prepared".
In addition to his Athens triumph, Taufik also won the 2005 world championships and 2006 Asian Games.
He had insisted the All England was his target this year but he has not played in Birmingham since reaching the 2004 semi-finals.
This year he has only played in the Malaysian Open, the first event in the Badminton World Federation's new Super Series.
The All England is the third event on the 12-tournament circuit.
Despite his absence tournament director Darren Parks said: "We have a lot of great players competing this week and the semi-finals (Saturday) and the finals (Sunday) are virtual sell-outs."
England's Tracey Hallam, the Commonwealth champion, starts her comeback on Tuesday following ankle surgery in September.
She begins her campaign in the qualifying rounds, which start at 1200 GMT.
