Kidd upset the Honey camp with his over-exuberant celebration |
Nick Kidd is just one match away from a successful defence of his English National Badminton title after beating Toby Honey in Manchester. Second seed Kidd won 21-15 21-17 in a fraught semi-final and will now play Nathan Rice in the final.
Rice overcame top seed and reigning European junior champion Rajiv Ouseph 14-21 21-12 21-19.
Rice won six of the last seven points to come from behind to edge out Ouseph and reach his first final.
Kidd's over-exuberant victory celebrations upset Honey's brother, who had to be calmed by umpire Elaine Senior.
Referee Keith Hawthorne said: "Elaine has spoken to Nick and asked him to tone it down."
In the women's singles, 2006 runner-up Jill Pittard reached the final for the third time where she will play the unseeded Elizabeth Cann.
Cann, champion in 2005, beat 1998 finalist Rebecca Pantaney in straight sets in her semi-final.
World, Commonwealth and national champions Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms will meet Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg in a repeat of the world and nationals finals.
European champions Emms and Kellogg are through to the women's doubles final and are favourites to retain their title.
