Nick Kidd reached the semi-finals of the English National Championships in Manchester after again getting the better of Aamir Ghaffar. Ghaffar won the title in 2004 and 2005 but was easily beaten by Kidd in the 2006 final.
And second seed Kidd came out on top this time, winning 27-25 15-21 21-16 to set up a semi-final with Toby Honey.
The other semi-final will be between top seed Rajiv Ouseph and third seed Nathan Rice.
Honey beat surprise quarter-finalist Mark Sellwood 21-16 21-13, Ouseph beat eighth seed Ben Beckman 21-6 21-18 and Rice saw off fifth seed 21-11 21-16.
In the women's singles, second seed Michelle Cheung lost in the quarter-finals for the second year in a row.
The 17-year-old was beaten by 2005 champion Elizabeth Cann, who is unseeded this year.
Cann now faces 1998 finalist Rebecca Pantaney after the fourth seed beat Helen Ward 21-7 21-13.
Top seed and last year's runner-up Jill Pittard beat Laura Cousins 21-17 21-11.
Pittard now meets Caroline Westley, who overcame 15-year-old Panuga Riou 21-12 21-15.
In the mixed doubles, world and Commonwealth champions Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms won their quarter-final to remain on course for a final rematch with Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg.
