Guernsey's Andy Le Page applies an arm-lock on his way to becoming 2009 British Champion for his weight category in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Guernsey's Andy Le Page was crowned the 64-70kg white belt British Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion after victory in Birmingham on Sunday.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a mix of several martial arts and emphasises the use of joint-locks and chokeholds.
Le Page used arm-locks to great effect winning five out of his six fights with them in the knockout competition and won the final in under ten seconds.
He also reached the semi finals in the Absolute (Openweight) category.
Le Page said using arm-locks was part of his game-plan: "My preferred technique is a triangle but I find armbars are a safer technique.
"There's less risk involved and it also seemed to work which is good."
With only four belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) compared to eight in traditional there can be a large difference between competitors of the same bout.
"White belts may have been training for three years, there can be a huge gap between the quality of the white belts," said Le Page who has been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a year.
As for progress onto his next belt, blue, he is "in no great rush because I want to go to another competition as a white belt".
