Jersey fell one goal short to Worthing |
Jersey's water polo team fell agonisingly short in their quest to make the play-off stages of the South East League Championships. The island side needed to win all three of their South East League West Division matches but lost in their final match 8-7 to Worthing. Jersey started the competition well, winning both matches on the first day. A strong 14-4 win against Southampton University was followed with a 13-9 victory over Oxford. Sunday morning's match against Worthing proved one game too many for the island team. Jersey fought well but were behind for the majority of the game. Captain Nat Snook was disappointed and said: "It's a shame really, just missing the chance by one goal. "We were strong in the second half and the boys all had a good game." It is the first time in three years Jersey have not made the play-off stage, with Worthing winning the right in their place.
