Guernsey celebrate their golden goal winner |
Guernsey beat UCL Academicals 4-3 in golden goal extra-time to progress to the next round of the Hockey Association Trophy on Sunday. The Sarnians were 3-1 up against the former students before two converted short corners levelled the scores. Guernsey had a goal disallowed before full-time but won by scoring in the first minute of extra time. Player/coach Ben Allberry told the BBC: "I'm happy with the result but we need to learn from our performance." In the previous round Guernsey won through a Golden Goal scored in almost the last minute away against Eastbourne. | We should have killed it off earlier in the game |
Allberry added: "It was nice to kill it off but I think we should have killed it off earlier in the game." Captain Andy Whalley agreed lessons had to be learnt: "We did exactly the same in the last round, we were 3-1 up. I think we've really got to learn to kill a game. "Getting ourselves ahead in a game, we're good at that bit. It's when we're comfortable, we don't know how to get the fourth and fifth, we just tend to sit back a little bit." Guernsey will now travel to Cirencester on 23 November 2008.
