A surfer in action on the first day of the Boardmasters |
Rain? Who cares! The surf's been pumping. The competitors put on some spectacular displays in head-high waves on Tuesday. Despite the poor weather the beach was busy and there was an added buzz around the contest area as the first round got underway. Standing at the surfers check-in point is a good place to capture the highs and lows of the event and there were plenty of memorable moments. British number one Russell Winter put a brave face on his early exit, dealing with defeat is not easy and it is a long walk back up the beach for those in the spotlight. Oli Adams' smile of surprise on discovering he had posted the highest wave score in the whole contest was definitely worth waiting for. Away from the water the skateboarders and bike riders are proving to be favourites with the crowd.
