Funnell filled two of the top three places |
Pippa Funnell dominated the Blenheim Petplan International Horse Trials on Sunday as she followed up last week's Burghley triumph in fine style. She claimed the Blenheim title with Jurassic Rising and also finished third with Viceroy.
Funnell had a fence in hand with Jurassic Rising over Darrell Scaife and Chase the Melody as she went into the showjumping phase.
But Scaife proceeded to knock three fences down to let in Australia's double-Olympic gold medallist Philip Dutton on Nova Top, who leapt from sixth to second.
Funnell made one mistake on each horse but it was enough for her to fill two of the top three spots.
"I tried not to think about the pressure and to ride them like I do at home, as my husband William told me to," said Funnell.
"It gives me confidence for the future knowing that I can ride under pressure."
Dutton, one of only five to go clear in the showjumping, paid tribute to Funnell's extraordinary achievement of capturing five three-day events in five months
"Coming second to Pippa is like winning," he said.
