Italian distance swimmer Viola Valli won her second gold in three days by taking the 10km open water race at the fourth day of the World Swimming Championships. Valli won in a time of one hour 59 minutes and 49.9 seconds to add to the gold medal she won in Sunday's 5km race.
Angela Mauer of Germany took the silver, while bronze went to Edith Van Dijk.
In the men's event, Vladimir Diattchine won his country's fourth gold medal in a time of 1:50.58.8, 7.7 seconds ahead of silver medallist Christian Hein of Germany.
Local favourite David Meca of Spain claimed the bronze, out-sprinting Diattchine's Russian team-mate Evgeny Bezruchenko, who finished fourth.
Japan's first gold medal of the championships came in the free programme in synchronized swimming. The United States and Spain shared the silver medal.
Emilie Heymans of Canada won gold in the 10m platform diving. China's Lao Lishi and Li Na took silver and bronze.
