Brawling fans and officials halted the wrestling finals after Russia's Buvaysa Saytiev and Murat Gaidarov of Belarus exchanged punches following their bout. Eventual gold medallist Saytiev won the bad-tempered 74 kg quarter-final before fighting broke out in the auditorium.
Top wrestling officials said the athletes and federations faced sanctions and a possible �5,555 fine.
Meanwhile, Russia's Khadjimourat Gatsalov won gold in the 96kg class, beating Uzbekistan's Magomed Ibragimov.
In the 74kg division, Gennadiy Laliyev of Kazakhstan won silver with Cuba's Ivan Fundora in bronze.
Cuba's Yandro Miguel Quintana won gold in the 60kg category with Masuod Jokar of Iran second and Japan's Kenji Inoue in third.
In the 66kg division, Ukraine's Elbrus Tedeyev beat Jamill Kelly of America for gold with Russia's Makhach Murtazaliev in third.
In the 84kg class, American Cael Sanderson took gold with Korea's Eui Jae Moon in second and Russian Sazhid Sazhidov in third.
