Defending champion Rulon Gardner reached the semi-finals of the men's heavyweight wrestling after winning a four-man qualifying group on Tuesday. Gardner will meet Georgiy Tsurtsumia of Kazakhstan in the last four.
Gardner beat Poland's Marek Mikulski, Lithuanian Mindaugas Mizgaitis and Serguey Moreyko of Bulgaria.
Gardner caused one of the greatest upsets in the sport when he beat Russian Alexander Karelin to win the 130kg gold medal four years ago.
