Sailing events for the Olympics and Paralympics will take place in the coastal area of southern Attica at a newly built facility in Helliniko. The International Sailing Federation has hailed Agios Kosmas for having the best ever facilities at a Games.
It is situated 34 kilometres from the Olympic Village and approximately 14km south of the centre of Athens.
Racing will take place in the Saronic Gulf, with four courses placed as close to the venue as possible.
There is an athletes' lounge and a medical centre on site, and successful test events were completed in August 2002 and August 2003.
