Howey will be going for her third Olympic judo medal |
Great Britain have named a strong judo squad for the Athens Olympics. Kate Howey will make her fourth Olympic appearance, having won a silver medal in 2000 and a bronze in 1992.
Craig Fallon, Georgina Singleton and Karina Bryant were included after booking their places at last year's World Championships.
And Winston Gordon, Sophie Cox, Sarah Clark and Rachel Wilding joined them by sealing qualification at the European Championships last week.
The team includes several strong medal contenders.
Fallon took silver in the men's under 60 kilogram division at the 2003 World Championships in Japan.
Bryant followed up her silver in the open category and bronze in the over 78kg in Osaka with silver at the European Championships in Bucharest. And Cox (-57kg) and Clark (-63kg) booked their tickets to Athens by winning silver and bronze respectively last week. British Judo performance director Udo Quellmalz said: "We are delighted to have qualified eight players through the tough judo Olympic qualification process.
"The past performances of every team member shows their potential to achieve a good result at the Games.
